Project Description

The Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, historic heir to the great tradition of finance and credit that made Florence the banking centre of the fifteenth-century world, has always supported the city of Florence and its artistic and cultural heritage. It continues to do so, committed to prolonging the tradition of Florentine patronage. Its intention is to maximise this mission utilising new modes and media for the spread of culture that can involve as many users as possible. At the same time the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze wishes to promote Florence and its enterprise at international level, and has from the very start adopted the role of a modern patron on the model of Lorenzo il Magnifico.

By contributing to the production and distribution of the film “Florence and the Uffizi in 3D|4K” the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze intended to place emphasis on the artistic beauties of the Renaissance and the vitality and importance of the Florentine economy, based on the enterprise of its bankers, its merchants and the craftsmen who were able to produce these marvels.

Produced in collaboration with Sky Arte, FLORENCE AND THE UFFIZI IN 3D|4K is much more than a classic art documentary. It is instead a multimedia and multisensory journey through Renaissance Florence that exploits cutting-edge technologies to explore the city’s most representative artistic treasures. This is a project of international scope aimed at allowing the entire world to discover the leading figures of the Renaissance and of the Uffizi Gallery: Botticelli, Brunelleschi, Raphael, Caravaggio, Donatello, Michelangelo, Piero della Francesca and Leonardo.

The documentary was released in Italian cinemas in November 2015, garnering immediate and extraordinary success (250,000 spectators in five days), supported by excellent press coverage, thus making an effective contribution to the spread of the artistic-cultural centrality of Florence and the action of the Ente.

The film has been released in over 60 foreign countries. In Australia alone it attracted a public of 10,000 spectators in three days and won the record as the most widely viewed art documentary in audiovisual history

The economic support for this venture totalled € 50,000.00.
